About Cochlear Implants

Cochlear implants can help those with severe profound loss to perceive speech. CI user can enjoy TV or music but many of them may not be able to. To use phones make sure to get one rated as M4/T4.

Although these implants cannot restore normal hearing . But it allows deaf people to receive and process sound and speech . These devices have high success rate as medical prosthesis. Only less than 0.2% of recipients rejects them. These are tools to allow sound and speech to be processed and sent to the brain. The quality of sound keeps on improving but it takes around 3 months for initial tuning sessions.

Usually after cochlear implantation performance is good. Poor performance mostly occur due to problems related with device. Only about 5-7% of children and 1-3 % of adults will experience device failure.

After surgery it takes around 4-6 weeks to see significant growth of sound awareness. Although speech understanding improves gradually but most CI users experience improvement in 6 months.
